Do yourself the favour and stand in front of a K120 (or larger) ski jump hill – if you have the opportunity that is.
I took the above image at Holmenkollen in Oslo. It looks like these things are wont to on TV. Once you get closer, however, you’ll be blown away by the sheer scale and steepness. I was afraid just climbing around on those seats.
Just pure awe.
Then the physicist comes out: Why does it have to be so steep? he asks. The mind fills up with the thoughts of angles, velocities and forces. Of course, it has to be like that. If it wasn’t, there wouldn’t be any ski jumping.
