Colours with a capital “C”

With the autumn, the Colours come back!

They really do. Just look at this image, which I have taken at a beach in Breivika on Andøya, Norway. In the distance, one can discern the mountains of the island of Senja. Between us and them lies Andfjorden, which is visited regularly by sperm whales, orcas, and oodles of smaller dolphins. There are other animals, too, not the least of which is the Håkjerring, a shark which can grow several hundred years of age.

Oh, the colours, yes, of course. The keywords are “Mie scattering” in the clouds, and “Rayleigh scattering” basically everywhere else above ground. The ocean is another story entirely.

Beautiful autumn, may you be welcome this year as well! 🙂
