Imagination without knowledge? Spring surprises

Looking at this detail, there are many stories my brain conjures up. They have to do with the ocean in the background, shipwrecks and the “tooth of time gnawing away” at the remnants of long gone boats. Imagine the memory of the people involved in all the big and small drama surrounding those boats slowly fading into oblivion…

Then of course, I do know what the tooth of time (isn’t German a wonderful language sometimes?) actually is: Chemistry and physics.

No, that knowledge does not take away from those stories. Not at all. It tells a story itself, a story which builds a bridge between my romantic ideas and the reality in front of me, lifting those ideas above clichée in the process. I would not want to be without it, to be honest.

Imagination and knowledge together are powerful!
